Daunte Culpepper got the best of his former team (Dolphins) in a 35-17 victory on Sunday.

October 1, 2007

(Philadelphia, Pa) ----This Sunday’s action featured one the bigger “revenge” in-your-face stories as Raiders QB Daunte Culpepper returned to Miami leading his new team to a 35-17 victory.  In the game, Culpepper was not perfect but he made Dolphins stadium “Daunte’s Inferno”.  He only threw 5-of-12 for 75 yards but two of the completions were for two touchdowns to Jerry Porter and he added seven carries for 28 yards and three touchdowns. Culpepper got his big chance when Raider’s starter Josh McCown got injured (big toe) and ironically he got the call to start against the Dolphins, who acrimoniously released him this summer amidst whispers of Culpepper’s non-health (knee).

Culpepper was signed by the Raiders as a Plan B by after a prolonged holdout by draft pick JaMarcus Russell and he delivered big time!!  Unfortunately for first-year Dolphins coach Cam Cameron, the Dolphins looked lost falling to 0-4.  Cameron’s personal pick for quarterback over Culpepper, Trent Green threw two interceptions in the defeat.

After the game Culpepper was all smiles and said about the win, "Obviously, when I first looked at the schedule, I noticed that we were playing Miami". "I don't think that I had any extra emphasis on it. Like I said, I'm just glad that I had the opportunity to play here today and to play healthy and come out with a win."

Culpepper was my pick at the beginning of the year as the NFL’s Comeback Player of the year and he maybe on his way to the award.  First he will have to battle McCown, led the Raiders their first win this year for the starting job (Can you say Quarterback Controversy).  Somehow I don’t believe that will be a problem for the former Pro Bowl player.
