BQB-Site.com would like to congratulate Cameron Newton for
recently signing with the University of Florida on Signing Day 2007
One of the bigger days in college sports and in the lives of blue chip high school athletes, “Signing Day” came and went on Wednesday February 7, 2007. As expect some kids changed their minds and all the schools and coaches touted their next wave of Saturday afternoon idols as being the best. The SEC again served notice that they are the conference to be reckoned with by snaring 32 of recruiting guru Tom Lemming's Top 100 players. 2006 National Champion the University of Florida was particularly strong again in recruiting with one of their crown jewels being quarterback Cameron Newton from Westlake High School in Atlanta, Georgia.
Blessed with great size (6’5, 225) Newton has a strong pocket presence and has the athleticism to avoid pressure and make plays down the field. He was a rare 1,000 yard passer and rusher in 2007 (1,000 rushing and 1,400 passing) and possesses a nice high over the top release allowing him to make all of the throws long and short. He also is a rare athlete for his size displaying both strength and quickness as seen on the basketball court. He reminds me of Doug Williams and of 2007 NFL Draft class’ leading candidate LSU quarterback JaMarcus Russell. Newton chose to enroll early at UF in January of 2007 to get an early start on his playbook and studies.
